About EEGSS

The Electrical Engineering Graduate Students’ Society (EEGSS) is a student organization for graduate students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This organization serves as an essential link between the graduate students and their department as well as the Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS). Therefore, as a representative organization of graduate students, EEGSS not only voices students concerns to their department but also conveys information from the department to the students.

In order to encourage a balance between academic and non-academic life for students, EEGSS also provides sponsorships for student group activities. EEGSS also provides other non-research related facilities for individual research groups within the department. Over the past, EEGSS has provided funding for microwave oven, kettle and coffee machine to be installed in individual groups. In addition, EEGSS also provides equipment rental services such as softball equipment for graduate students.

As registered graduate students at Electrical and Computer Engineering, students automatically become members of EEGSS. If you are a student new to graduate studies or new to the department, please do not hesitate to contact any EEGSS representatives. They are more than welcome to help you.

EEGSS Activities and Services

EEGSS is currently investing in social welfare of students, something which is frankly lacking in the busy student life. As a result, EEGSS offers the  following activities and services:

  • EEGSS maintains a common room in the basement of the McConnell building. This facility includes audio/visual capability, a microwave and lounging couches.
  • EEGSS also provides and maintains a web page for its students.

EEGSS Constitution

The operation of the EEGSS is dictated by its constitution. Everything from financial decisions to the roles of the executive are defined in this document.

  • To read the EEGSS constitution, please click here.
  • EEGSS council is currently working on the constitution and will bring a few changes to the current version. The final modifications have to be approved by the EEGSS members before being finalized. Please, let us know if you have any suggestions/comments about the current version of constitution and we will try to reflect them in our proposal.

EEGSS Lounge Rules

EEGSS owns a student lounge located in the basement of McConnell Engineering Building. Graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering can register at here and request the lounge access. The lounge has a 60-inch TV and a microwave wave. It also hosts the mails of graduate students, which have been sent to the department. Here are the list of rule for our graduate lunge:

  • Keep this lounge neat and tidy.
  • Liquids are to be disposed of in the sink and not in the bin.
  • EEGSS members are allowed to access the lounge from Monday through Friday only from 9:00am to 9:00pm. The lounge will be off-limits to members during EEGSS Council meetings.
  • Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited in the lounge.
